It was Pride weekend in West Hollywood, and I forgot about it and invited friends over to my apartment. But bonding and hilarity definitely ensued!
As you may be aware, traffic is pretty horrible in Los Angeles in general. Add Gay Pride to that and it gets a whole lot worse. My friend Emilie was once again in town, and we made plans to catch up at the Starbucks near my apartment so we could catch up and I could show her my new place! What should’ve taken her 15 minutes to drive to my apartment took her around 45, but we still had plenty of time to catch up and talk about our lives. Always really great to see her, and she lives very close to the hostel I’ll be staying at when I visit New York in September, so I’m sure I’ll be seeing her while I’m there!
I then headed home to get ready to go out with my friend Brendan! Brendan and I went to high school together (he was actually my prom date!), but despite both living in LA after graduating college, we hadn’t seen each other in around four years. We were way overdue for a good reunion. My trainer Erik had yet another comedy show, and this one was just a 15-minute walk from my house (instead of all the way in Pasadena), so I invited Brendan to join! He had planned on getting to my apartment at 6:30, but didn’t actually arrive until around 7:15. Oh Pride traffic… The show was supposedly starting at 8:00, so we had a quick dinner at “Greenspan’s Grilled Cheese” before walking a block over to “Sal’s Comedy Hole” for the show.
Unlike the last show, which started right on time, this show started about a half hour later. But it gave Brendan and I some more time to catch up on life and pick up where we left off. Erik then walked in and introduced me to his parents who were visiting from Illinois! With around 12 of his friends and family coming to support him, Erik easily the biggest crowd out of the 10 comics who performed their stand-up routines. Like last time, there was a mix of good and bad, with Erik definitely at the top of the list.
The show ended at around 10:30 and Brendan and I walked back to my apartment to talk for a bit before calling it a night. It was so great to catch up and bring up hilarious high school memories. I’m sure he’ll be making another appearance on the blog soon!
