The Nerd Awakens

For as long as I can remember, I have loved Star Wars. So of course I’m going to create a post about seeing Star Wars: The Force Awakens for the first time!

Today was going to be a good day. I could hardly concentrate at work due to all of the excitement built up inside of me. As soon as I could, I left work and raced over to meet my friends Chelsea and Mel for dinner before embarking on the nerdy experience of my young adulthood. Sure, I was around for the releases of the prequel movies, but I mean…well, you know.

We ate at one of my favorite bars, “Public School 818,” which happened to have some themed drinks in honor of The Force Awakens. Very fun, although they all had bourbon so I abstained. After a bite to eat (I once again had their delicious lamb burger with a side of quinoa salad), we hopped across the street to the movie theater.

Tons of Star Wars fans were dressed up: stormtrooper onesies, Chewbacca jackets, even Darth Vader beanies. I was in good company while wearing my Darth Vader shirt and Empire symbol necklace. There was a giant wall featuring the movie’s villain, Kylo Ren, and his hilted red lightsaber, so I obviously had to take a photo by it.

We finally sat down for the movie at about 9pm, on the night before it officially came out. I had bought my tickets about 2 months in advance, and when we finally sat down, I lost it a bit. Thankfully my friends were only slightly mocking but understood my excitement. This was the sequel to my favorite (unpopular opinion) Star Wars film that I’d seen so many times as a kid and an adult. When the music hit, I got a little teary-eyed (some slight shame).

No spoilers, as I would hate to be the one to do that to someone, but at the time I’m writing this, I’ve already seen in 3 times in theaters and fully plan on buying it as soon as it comes out (aka it’s amazing and even non-Star Wars nerds like me will enjoy it).
