Cocina Condesa

I’m always down for Mexican food, and I’m always down for brunch, so combining the two was quite the winning combination.

With my new job in full swing and my schedule being really packed, I’ve had to meticulously schedule in time to see my friends. I hadn’t hung out with Maria in about a month, so when she suggested we go to “Cocina Condesa,” a fun Mexican restaurant in Studio City, I knew I had to make the time.

I’d been to Cocina Condesa once before with my family and some family friends. I thoroughly enjoyed their guacamole (they have one with crickets, but that sounded a bit too adventurous for me) and their tacos were out of this world. But Maria had told me that they do a fun weekend brunch, and as an adult, partaking in brunch is not just a privilege but a right (okay, not really, but brunch is really damn great).

After having to park about a half mile away, I arrived at the restaurant and we sat on the outside patio, as it was a beautiful SoCal afternoon. I ordered one of their “Paloma” cocktails, which was a perfect mix of tartness and sweetness, and we finally caught up about each other’s lives. When our food was finally brought out, it was nearly silent. You know a meal is particularly good when everyone stops talking. Maria got their breakfast burrito, but I indulged in their flaky, spicy “Chicken Chorizo, Egg, and Cheese Empanada.” Each bite was more delicious than the last, the house potatoes on the side were a great accompaniment.

More wonderful than the food was the conversation, as I always have a great time with Maria! It’s always nice to be able to pick up conversations exactly where they left off, no matter how much time has passed. So in conclusion, I will definitely be returning to Cocina Condesa, and will continue to update you on more fun times with friends.
