Days 144-147: Last TLV Weekend

Okay, well technically my last weekend in Tel Aviv will be in a month, but this is my last weekend on the program, so I feel the title is still acceptable. Here we go…

Day 144: Thursday, 1/29/2015

Well, it’s officially my last day of work. Can you believe it? My boss pulled me into the CEO’s office and there was a small goodbye get-together for me. My boss, the CEO, and the office secretary each said some nice things about me, and they gave me a nice parting gift: chocolate, the book “Wild” (which I’ve actually really been wanting to read), a personalized note from my boss, and a letter of recommendation.

As there wasn’t a lot for me to do, my boss sent me home early with a big hug. It was sad to say goodbye, but I’m so thankful for the experience I had working at the company. It was the perfect internship for me.

That night, I was invited over to Amy and Fede’s apartment for dinner with a few other people from the program. It was very fun, aside from the fact that we didn’t eat until 2 hours after the dinner was called for. But we had a very nice time overall, and the food was pretty delicious! Fede is Italian, so she made penne with her mother’s sauce recipe and chocolate mousse for dessert.

After dinner I headed home and ended up getting a little injured. I slipped and fell into a metal telephone pole (I was completely sober and just trying to avoid it). It was extremely painful, but by the time I’m writing this/you’re reading this, it’s not too bad, just some bruising and a little soreness. I popped an advil and headed to bed.

Day 145: Friday, 1/30/2015

I started the day off pretty late, but once I finally got going, Amy came over and we headed to “Benedict” for an early dinner. When we got back to my apartment, we sat on my bed and watched our mutual guilty pleasure, “The Bachelor,” providing plenty of colorful (and loud) commentary the entire time.

After the show ended, it was time for us to get ready for Prom! Yes, we were having a prom (since we’re “graduating” the program). A ton of people came over to get ready at our apartment, so we had some fun. I had figured out the dress I was going to wear, but shoes were a bit of an issue. I had given all of my nicer shoes to my parents to take back with them (so I’d have less to bring back home with me), so I ended up wearing a black dress and the new boots my parents got me. It was a very interesting look, but I felt I rocked it.

Originally, it was just going to be Amy and I as each other’s dates, but I was talking with Aaron and he really wanted to go, but had told his original date that he was too sick to attend. So he ended up joining us, and we were a pretty cute group of three!

The actual prom was held in the parking garage of one of the apartment buildings. The people who live in the apartment put up some cute decorations, including Christmas lights and a backdrop for couple photos. It was nice, although it did smell a lot like cat pee and the elevator broke once we got down there and it was on floor -5. Getting back up was a bit of a hike.

I had a really nice time! It was so great getting to catch up with everyone, and we all shared photos from our original high school proms. THAT was hilarious. Aaron, Amy, and I took some typical prom photos (these have yet to go on Facebook, so once I find them, I’ll be sure to steal them and post them to my own album!) and I mingled around with everyone.

Amy’s roommate Fede was not feeling too well, so Amy and her took a cab back pretty early on in the evening, and Aaron was getting over the flu, so he also ducked out early. Daniel came later, and his date was Fede, so we ended up taking cute prom photos too.

I stayed pretty late hanging out with everyone. I wouldn’t really call it a “prom” so much as a hangout where everyone dressed nicely, but I had a blast!

Day 146: Saturday, 1/31/2015

I was pretty exhausted when I woke up the next morning, so I took it easy until later in the day. Erin invited over Natalie, Amy, and I for a Quadies night (that’s what we call ourselves). We hadn’t had one where all 4 of us attended in forever, so we were all overdue for a good hangout. We caught up and gossiped a bit, and ate yummy food. We ended the evening with a cute photo of all 4 of us, because we realized we hadn’t taken one of just us 4 yet. Here’s the results:

We all gave each other huge hugs goodbye, because we knew it would be the last time we hung out just us 4 for a long time… 😦

Day 147: Sunday, 2/1/2015

I can’t believe it’s already February! Just a few more days until I embark on my European adventures! I spent the day packing and relaxing (and not watching the Superbowl, because it was on at 1:30am). I’m still not done packing yet. That will happen later.

Well, that was my last weekend living in good ol’ Tel Aviv. It’s so weird to think about how fast this program seems to have gone by. But again, I’ll save full reflections for when I’m home and have time and energy to look back on everything. Until then, I’m just living in the moment, and I think that’s been treating me pretty well.
